Opportunity at a Glance

This role is responsible for working with the Manager of the Center for Academic Success (CAS), faculty and staff to help students be successful in their nursing program and to help increase the students’ potential for passing the NCLEX-RN.  They work with students to identify their strengths, learning styles, and areas requiring further development, and to develop a plan of remediation for the students. 

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Manager of the CAS to evaluate performance of tutors and coordinate the peer-tutor program.
  • Meets regularly with students to provide information and support as they progress through the nursing program and prepare to take the E2 and the NCLEX-RN.
  • Provides guidance individually or in groups, in preparation for the standardized final exams, Evolve specialty exams, the exit exam, and the NCLEX.
  • Tutors students in content area as well as in test taking skills.
  • Interprets test results with students, counsels and assesses learning problems, and develops individual student remediation plans.
  • Maintains documentation on student remediation plans, processes and success. 
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of exit examinations and the NCLEX-RN as well as currency in knowledge in the field to provide academic support.
  • Develops reports as required.
  • Supports the Manager in securing and coordinating proctors for all course examinations.
  • Supports the Manager in analyzing student academic data for research and assessment purposes.
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of college programs and accurately communicates academic policies and regulations to students.
  • Coordinates standardized testing, including the ordering of and distributing of materials, overseeing exams, and evaluating effectiveness of the testing center.
  • Works with the Manager in ordering of packages from Evolve for students entering NR224/NR302.
  • Works with the Manager to implement the Student Academic Success (SAS) Program  for students and to coordinate elements of the SAS Program with faculty and staff. 
  • Demonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy, professional environment, effective communication, first class service.
  • Participates in professional organizations as appropriate and serves on College committees as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

  • Masters Degree in nursing required.
  • Professional nurse licensure required.
  • 2 years experience in an academic environment providing classroom instruction or specialized tutoring support required.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to communicate via telephone, computer, and in person.
