Collaborating with the Assistant Dean, Academic Success, the Academic Success Coach and faculty and staff, the Professional Nursing Tutor  is instrumental in helping students be successful in their nursing program and in helping to increase the students’ potential for passing the NCLEX-RN.  Working directly with the students, the Professional Nursing Tutor identifies student strengths, learning styles, and areas requiring further development to develop remediation plans for the students. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and leading individual and/or collaborative group sessions that encourage student engagement and instructional support; facilitates students understanding of course objectives and clarification of key content.
  • Tutors students in content area as well as in test taking skills in preparation for all exams (course, standardized, and NCLEX-RN).
  • Assists with assessing the academic needs of the nursing students and developing plans for remediation; maintains documentation on student remediation plans, processes and success.
  • Assists students to develop study and time management skills to promote success on exams.
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of the NCLEX-RN as well as currency in knowledge in the field to provide academic support.
  • Communicates students’ progress to the Assistant Dean, Academic Success.
  • Documents student’s success using Tutor Track.
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of college programs and accurately communicates academic policies and regulations to students.
  • Demonstrates professional behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy, professional environment, effective communication, first class service.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Education or Nursing preferred.
  • Professional unencumbered nurse licensure required.
  • 1 year of experience providing support to others in precepting, tutoring, training, instruction, advising academic support services or classroom instruction required.
  • 1 year of recent nursing experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills with high degree of professionalism.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
