Opportunity at a Glance

This position is responsible for creating Cognos Framework Modeling, Cubes, Dashboards and Reports in support of business requests.  The team supports various functional units with a strong focus on supporting Chamberlain needs.  The analyst needs to understand Chamberlain business areas and translate business needs into technical specifications and ultimately reports, cubes, dashboards, and similar output. The individual will also be responsible for working with IT and Data Warehouse team to ensure that data necessary for creating business intelligence objects is available in the necessary format, level of detail and so forth.  The Senior Cognos Reporting Analyst also assists with leading the development team.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for framework modeling, Complex report writing, creating cubes and dashboard reports. Utilizes Oracle database and Cognos 10 suite of products (Workspace, Framework Manager, Transformer, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Query Studio, and Metric Studio) to accurately build and report data.
  • Works closely with IT to identify key business requirements for technological enhancements for any reporting needs as well as the maintainability of our production infrastructure.
  • Creates and executes test plans/scripts to test/QA reports and programs.
  • Acts as the senior technical resource for the team.  Assists the manager in mentoring and developing the team’s technical skills.
  • In conjunction with the manager, assigns work and tracks progress.  Is responsible for his/her own assigned deliverables as well as helping supervise the team.  Provides input and feedback into employee development plans and performance reviews.
  • Dimensional modeling reporting using DMR functions.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned or required.
  • Works with the business areas to develop report requirements.  Creates business and data requirements for new reports.  Works closely with the IT Department to assure that the data requirements are met and completed business intelligence objects are successfully migrated to production.
  • Participates in converting other system reports to Cognos BI tools.  This includes researching data availability and format, designing reports, programming, and publishing the reports.
  • Participates in the data integrity initiative and works with end users to follow through with associated action items.
  • Works with other business areas to reconcile data differences.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 8 or more years experience with the Cognos suite of products (Workspace, Framework Manager, Transformer, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Query Studio, and Metric Studio) required.  Must have at least 3 years of solid experience with the Cognos v10 suite, as well as exposure to Cognos V11.
  • 5 or more years experience with data warehousing life cycle and dimensional modeling required.
  • 2-3 years experience as team leader or equivalent with supervisory and coaching responsibilities
  • 5 or more years of experience in Advanced Structured Query Language (SQL) programming experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in computer science or related discipline, with a quantitative concentration.
  • Good Documentation Skills required.
  • Must have strong critical thinking, organizational, interpersonal communication, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Cognos certification in Report Authoring is a plus.
  • Experience with TM1 is highly desired
  • Experience with SPSS modeler and SPSS statistics is a plus.
