Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean directs and provides leadership for all campus level general education faculty to ensure faculty and curricula are current and consistently delivered in an environment and manner that achieves superior student outcomes.  The faculty selected for this chair role will maintain faculty status. Depending on the need of the location, the faculty chair will have an instructional workload of up to 32 credits annually.

Responsibilities

 

  • Serves as a role model and mentors general education faculty and all students in areas of academic and service excellence, collaboration, communication and professionalism
  • Conducts classroom and course shell observations
  • Serves as liaison with local DeVry campus on matters related to general education courses offered both online and on ground
  • Serves as a member of the Science Committee (DeVry)
  • Establishes a Safety Committee on campus on serves as the Chair
  • Orders and inventories all required equipment and supplies for science classes
  • Maintains Science classroom and Prep room
  • Solicits recommendations from science faculty for academic budget
  • Ensures regular meetings of the science faculty to facilitate communication and faculty participation in planning, implementing and evaluation of the curriculum
  • Communicates with academic committees to ensure that appropriate goals and projects are implemented
  • Monitors student success including student satisfaction and course satisfaction
  • Works with DeVry Academic Success faculty to allow for tutoring on campus each week
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, onboarding, supervising and evaluation of science faculty.  The Dean of Academic Affairs or their designee is supervisor of record but the Associate Dean of Faculty - Arts and Sciences will assist in daily coaching and preparation of performance evaluation
  • Ensures that the general education curriculum meets quality/schedule requirements within the established budget. 
  • Ensures curricula are current and consistently delivered in an environment and manner that achieves superior student outcomes. 
  • Shares feedback on course objectives and content, gained from students, faculty, and other staff members, with appropriate faculty for the purpose of raising the level and effectiveness of content coverage throughout the system
  • Builds and maintains relationships with DeVry University to ensure that all assigned courses remain current and meet the established course objectives
  • Ensures regular meetings of the science faculty to facilitate communication and faculty participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum.           
  • Provides leadership in ongoing course evaluations and student learning outcomes.
  • Ensures that meaningful assessment of student achievement, e.g., exams, projects, cases, are included in each course and that appropriate use of assessment is used for continuous improvement of courses.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree, doctorate preferred (from regionally accredited institution)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience teaching science courses at the Bachelor level or above
  • Previous leadership experience required
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated strong time management skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels: student, faculty and staff.  Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to lead, direct and advise faculty
