Opportunity at a Glance

The Dean of Faculty is responsible for setting the strategic vision and mission for Chamberlain University faculty in concert with University goals and priorities, and advancing that vision and mission with the entire University faculty body. You will interact and communicate routinely with the all faculty to inspire excellence.

 

This position will create and streamline processes, procedures, initiatives, and training to enhance the faculty experience both personally and professionally; as well as create and maintain routine feedback mechanisms for faculty to provide their ideas to enhance academic quality through this feedback, respond proactively to specific issues regarding faculty, and coordinate positive resolutions. 

 

The Dean of Faculty will report directly to the Provost.

Responsibilities

  • Sets the strategic vision and mission for faculty.
  • Creates effective, routine communication venues that include mechanisms for collecting faculty ideas, supporting faculty concerns, and sharing information to enhance faculty quality and satisfaction.
  • Serves as the communication focal point and leader with faculty to inspire ongoing improvement of academic quality, introduction of new and improved learning methodologies and technology.
  • Provides the central leadership for building collegiality among University faculty through creation and implementation of collaborative initiatives.
  • Advocates for faculty and collaborates with administrative teams and decision-makers to support a healthy work environment for faculty.
  • Provides leadership for implementing guiding principles, initiatives, and teams for faculty development and professionalism.
  • Ensures that faculty development resources and initiatives target all levels of faculty experience and need.
  • Develops and reviews faculty outcomes and strategic goals that foster excellence in teaching performance and a passion for serving Chamberlain students.
  • Uses national faculty outcomes data to draw conclusions about faculty performance, developmental needs, and effectiveness of continuous quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance faculty quality and satisfaction.
  • Provides guidance, leadership and support of Associate Deans of Faculty in development and implementation of faculty orientation, training, and development programs.
  • Leads and executes faculty-based initiatives of the President of the University and the Provost.
  • Oversees the development, review, and evaluation of faculty resource materials, including faculty handbooks.
  • Creates and coordinates ways to identify and showcase faculty achievement.
  • Collaborates with others in the development and review of faculty position descriptions.
  • Collaborates with others in the development, review, and evaluation of rank and promotion criteria.
  • Supports the establishment of a pool of highly credentialed and visible faculty to support national initiatives and outreach.
  • Serves on Academic Steering Council, curriculum committees, and other accreditation or University leadership teams to further enhance Faculty involvement and communication.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • A PhD, DNP, or EdD degree is required
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Dean or Chief Academician in an environment where faculty supervision of both full time and part time faculty was prevalent and ongoing
  • Previous teaching experience, most desirably in a full-time faculty role at a college or university for at least 5 years
  • Proven skills in change management and continuous quality improvement
  • Experience leading disciplinary research and scholarship
  • Ability to make and effectively communicate decisions in a sensitive and dynamic environment
  • Ability to motivate, inspire excellence and build consensus
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills--ability to communicate effectively via email and phone
  • Experience in managing geographically diverse groups is strongly desired
  • Ability to operate successfully, remotely, is required
  • Ability to travel frequently, or as needed, is required
