    The Senior Director, Human Resources is responsible for the successful delivery of all aspects of the human resources function within Chamberlain University.  Chamberlain is one of four institutions within the Medical and Healthcare Vertical with a revenue base of +800M and growing. 

     

    Chamberlain University (CU) has 21 campuses across the US, a growing revenue base of +400M, and a population +1000 colleagues with aspirations of global expansion in the future.  The Senior Director will report into the VP of HR for the MHC Vertical and Institution President for Chamberlain University. 

     

    The successful candidate must be able to drive change and partnerships within the institution and across the MCH vertical.  Key success factors for this role include:

    This person will work with pace and a desire to continuously improve the colleague experience, is an effective Manager, Leader, influencer and has strong business acumen. 

     

    This role is both operational and strategic.  A change advocate, He/she will own the implementation of the HR Strategy in partnership with our Centers of Excellence and committed to HR Service Delivery excellence, efficiency, and continuous improvement.  The ideal candidate will want to grow into future HR Leadership roles after success in the current position. 

    Responsibilities

    • Acts as the lead HR Partner to the Chamberlain senior leadership team—builds effective and trusting relationships.
    • Passionate and effective champion for culture, care, and the colleague experience. 
    • Responsible for consulting to organizational effectiveness and is charged with identifying, diagnosing and implementing strategies to maximize performance within the institution.
    • Leads Talent Management, Succession and Development with the leadership/management team.
    • Partners with vertical leadership to ensure a robust talent strategy for the institution and across the vertical.  Is personally invested in the development and retention of high-performing, high-potential colleagues within the institution.
    • Works closely and effectively with our Centers of Excellence to continually improve the colleague experience and is the implementation are of our key Adtalem HR deliverables (Annual Planning, Engagement, Goal Setting, and Manager/Leadership Development).
    • Understands and works effectively within an academic and student-centric environment.
    • Through talent acquisition, ensures we are hiring exceptional Faculty and through culture, drives high retention and engagement.
    • Works well with pace, complexity and can operate virtually—effective with technology, multi-site locations in a complex, highly regulated environment.
    • Anticipates talent needs in a growing organization; ensures HR strategies are in alignment with growth goals.
    • Manages the performance and development of the institution’s HR consultants.
    • Completes other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master Degree strongly preferred.
    • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification desired. 
    • Experience in both COE and Generalist roles preferred with evidence of success and increasing responsibility throughout a career.   
    • Ability to live and work in Chicago advantageous.
    • Must be able to function and flourish in a team/matrix setting with multiple stakeholders; Needs to be a great partner, humble and team-oriented.   
    • The ability to influence and drive change within all levels of the organization; Possesses confidence and gravitas, work experience and educational credentials to influence a large percentage of PhD and other highly credentialed professionals. 
    • Builds trust and effective working relationships easily across a broad range of people and organizations.
    • Possesses a global mindset and values and appreciates diversity. 
    • Strong facilitation, writing, organizational development and problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrated mastery of employment law with a track record of confronting difficult HR issues and developing specific action plans to address them.
    • Possesses a passion for talent management and proven success in developing a strong bench and organizational succession to drive business success.
    • Comfort and expertise with technology, business metrics and finance, and stays cutting edge in current Human Resource trends—drives towards administration simplification and leverages new technology.
